The next phase of GPS tourism will officially be launched in Prince Edward Island on Saturday, March 31, 2007.
Seizing on the phenomenal growth in geocaching and waymarking, the South Shore Tourism Group is hosting the 1st Annual PEI South Shore Cache Dash….
Geocachers from across the Maritimes are being invited to participate in this unique event with over $1,500.00 in prizes available for participants. According to Phil MacKay of the South Shore Tourism Group, “The PEI South Shore Cache Dash blends geocaching and waymarking to provide a great afternoon of fun through the beautiful south shore region of Prince Edward Island.”
“This will also mark the beginning of an exciting new GPS tourism initiative that will involve geocaching and waymarking events throughout the summer,” says Dan Wall, Central Development Corporation. “We will be announcing a series of GPS activities designed to appeal to geocachers as well as provide tourists with an opportunity to try their hand at this exciting new travel experience.”
The PEI South Shore Cache Dash will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, March 31, 2007 with all participants starting from the Visitor Information Centre, Gateway Village, Borden-Carleton (N 46 15.314 W 063 41.755). Participants should arrive by 11:30 am. The event will wrap up at 4:00 pm at the Emerald Recreation Centre (N 46 21.682 W 063 32.954) for awarding of prizes, refreshments and announcement of summer-long GPS activities.

This event is the final stage of a geocaching initiative by the South Shore Tourism Group and was funded in part by ACOA, Tourism PEI and the Central Development Corporation.
